Do you know what to do when your baby cries?  SW Virginia Alliance for Safe Babies has information about how to comfort your baby.  This link also includes information about the prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome and SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).


 

If a child is in danger, call 911.  If you suspect that a child is a victim of child abuse or neglect, make a report to a local department of social services or to the Child Prevention Services Hotline at 800-552-7096.

 

Criteria for Child Abuse

  • Alleged victim is under the age of 18 at the time of the report
  • Alleged abuser is in a caretaking role
  • Alleged abuse or neglect meets the definition of abuse or neglect as defined by the CPS laws, regulations and policy
  • The Virginia Department of Social Services local agency has jurisdiction to respond to the report
